A range can be various styles. Keep in mind, most indoor ranges do not allow the firearm to be drawn from a holster. Most indoor ranges do not allow for movement while firing a weapon. Most indoor ranges have restrictions on the type of ammunition that can be used. If you would like me to teach you at an indoor range please be sure to check with that range to see what safety rules they have and what ammunition is allowed. If you would like me to travel to your location it is your responsibility to make sure the range is free to use during the time we meet. Some ranges are a first come first serve style range. I would be happy to wait if that's the case. But keep in mind my rate is hourly. If you live in a rural area and have an area you would like me to train you at please contact me to discuss your training location.
With the exception of the handgun I provide, for students that do not yet own a firearm, for the MN Permit to Carry Course, students will need to provide their own firearm and ammunition. Students will also need to bring their own protective equipment such as eye and ear protection. Students should have clothing appropriate for outdoor range activities and the weather conditions during the time of the training. Depending on the training you schedule with me and your skill level, shooting from kneeling, standing, and laying positions will occur. If your unable to shoot from kneeling or prone positions let me know prior to the training event. Not all ranges will have access to drinking water or restrooms so please plan accordingly.
Except for the MN Permit to Carry Course, my training is designed to be a one-on-one training. I have taught both classroom and one on one instruction. I have found through student feedback and experience that the best results have come when I am able to focus all my attention on one student. However, I understand that some students prefer to have a friend or spouse with them and I am more than able to accommodate that. Remember the more students your instructor teaches, during the same block of training, the less one on one-time individual students receive.
Courses range from two hours, to a full 8-hour course with breaks, so the student is not overloaded with new information.
Courses are meant to give the student a solid base of knowledge. Students should not expect that taking a level one course means they can follow up with level two courses. The skills Ready American Instructors teach are meant to be practiced until you become proficient with those skills and the weapon platform you are using. After you have gained proficiency with level one courses is when the student should move up to a level two course.
Students must have gained proficiency in lower-level skills so that when learning new skills the student doesn't need to stop and think about items already taught. Students that are new to handguns and AR platform rifles will want to take entry level courses a few times to ensure you are not forming "bad habits" while using your weapon platform. Forming "bad Habits" requires you to train harder to break those "bad habits".
I utilize S.I.R.T. pistols and training software to build fundamental skills and increase your abilities with existing skills. The training pistols are an excellent tool that help reduce the number of rounds fired, to achieve success, while building your skills and keeping ammunition costs down for students.
